Boards with moderate wear to extremities. Lettering to front board and spine faded. Endpapers a bit browned. Mild dampstaining throughout the book, not affecting readability; Color map in rear pocket. First edition, first printing, before editorial changes. Upon the book's release, a newspaper article complained that the book gave more space to the Sacco-Vanzetti affair than to the Boston Tea Party. This embarrassed the governor, who had enthusiastically endorsed the book without having read it. He then ordered changes, and while many of them were resisted, the chapter on labor was made much less sympathetic to workers, and references to Boston institutions were made more favorable as a whole. ; American Guide Series; B&W Photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 675 pages
